Sachin Tendulkar is a Saraswat Brahmin  (caste).

Born in Mumbai, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was introduced to the world of cricket by his elder brother Ajit. Ajit introduced a young Sachin to Ramakant Achrekar a famous cricket coach in 1984 at the age of 11. Even at an early age his coach was very impressed and soon Sachin become a topic of conversation in Mumbai’s cricketing circles. Sachin married Anjali and they have two children Sara & Arjun.

Sachin’s domestic career includes playing at Ranji trophy in India and at Yorkshire in England.

Sachin’s international cricket career has been extremely prolific and is currently the highest run maker with over 18,000 runs in international one day cricket matches. He also holds the record of 51 centuries (100 runs) in Test matches and 49 centuries in international one day matches.

Sachin has been awarded almost all Indian National honours including - Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, Maharashtra State’s highest Civilian Award in 2001, Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award in 1999
